The North East Fund for the Arts supports local organisations to engage with great art on their own terms. 

Developed over an initial three years with match funding from Arts Council England’s ‘Catalyst’ scheme, the fund has supports projects that have engaged a community in arts activity for the first time, developed their engagement, or inspired participants to seek further opportunities in the arts. The fund prides itself on supporting non-arts community and voluntary groups to work with professional artists and arts organisations. 

As a collective giving fund, your money will be pooled with others, so a greater impact can be made. 

How will my money make a difference? 

Your donation is invested and grown. The ongoing income earned is given out as grants to important local causes. 

Your money will be used to support a wide range of projects through grants made from the North East Fund for the Arts. Projects that have benefitted recently include: 

• Creating an art trail at The Secret Garden in Sunderland;
• Running costs for arts and crafts sessions with disabled young people in North Tyneside;
• Costs for an online music TV project, showcasing new and emerging local music talent;
• Delivering art therapy sessions for a newly formed community group.

At the Community Foundation North East we nurture giving and philanthropy, matching generous people with our region's important community causes. Every year, we award grants to hundreds of small charities in the North East through funds set up by our donors.

Since being established in 1988, the Foundation has awarded over £185 million in grants.
